Read out loud
You may have heard this a million times, but I am going to state it again. Have you ever wrote something and then later after it was printed realized there was a little mistake like the word "our" was actually printed as "are"? Reading your piece of writing aloud to yourself or someone else can usually catch these little mistakes. If you have the opportunity to ready aloud to someone else, you can also ask them what their impression was, did they understand the thesis, was it worth the paper it was printed on. This is also a good exercise in public humiliation. Try reading a paper aloud to yourself in a McDonald's. Make sure your back is facing the majority of the people sitting in the restaurant and just read your paper as if it was a poster on the wall.
