Writing Persuasion

Position and evidence chart

This is a great way to approach persuasive writing. The first part is putting together your position.

1. State your position
2. What from your past thinking or experience makes this position appealing to you.
3. List reasons to doubt this position
4. List reasons to support this position
5. Describe why this is an arguable issue

Then you want to put together your evidence chart. All of this information and organization will help you later have a more solid position that is well supported making your piece of writing more persuasive.

Evidence Chart

1. Research all positions on the issue
2. Write a brief summary of each position
3. List reasons for using each piece of evidence evaluating strengths and weaknesses
4. List counter arguments, attacks, etc. that other positions will make against yours.
